The Price Of The Cup

Jun 15, 2025    Pastor Jamol Cooper

The verse explicitly contrasts perishable riches (silver and gold) with the imperishable ransom paid by Christ (detailed in verse 19). Salvation is by the grace of God through Christ’s precious blood, not by corruptible things or human merit (Ephesians 2:8–9).

Here we see the means and cost of our redemption: “the precious blood of Christ.” This underscores Christ’s qualification to be our Redeemer: only a perfect sacrifice could atone for sins.

The preciousness of Christ’s blood speaks to its infinite value. It wasn’t merely a human life given, but the life of the Son of God. As Peter will say later, Christ was “the righteous for the unrighteous”
